Japanese electroacoustic music has never been a single school with a settled sound or one institutional home. Its history runs through broadcast studios, university research, independent concert spaces, artists’ workshops, record labels, and improvised performance. A dense one may be organized less by dramatic gesture than by the slow redistribution of frequency bands.
